What This Site Is
A free, neutral guide. The goal is to answer the questions people ask before a move: what changes when you become a Florida resident, how the counties compare, and where to find the official answer for a specific address.
The guides cover:
- Moving to Central Florida from Out of State: A Checklist
- Lake vs Sumter vs Marion County for Active Adults
Our sister site, Golf Cart Homes, covers golf cart communities, Florida golf cart rules, and choosing a neighborhood.
What This Site Is Not
This site does not sell anything. Active Adult Florida:
- Does not list, sell, or rent homes
- Does not represent buyers or sellers
- Does not collect names, email addresses, or phone numbers
- Is not affiliated with or endorsed by The Villages or its developer, or any other community developer, builder, or government agency
Nothing here is legal, tax, insurance, or medical advice. For decisions about a specific home or situation, talk with the agency that runs the program or a licensed professional.
How the Guides Are Researched
Facts come from official sources first. That means Florida statutes, state agencies such as the Department of Revenue and the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, county property appraisers, tax collectors, and emergency management offices, and federal sources such as FEMA, NOAA, and Medicare. Where a figure is an estimate, such as road distances, the page says how it was calculated.
If a fact could not be confirmed with a reliable source, it is left off the page. Each guide lists its sources at the bottom and shows when it was last updated.
Keeping Things Current
Rules, rates, and fees change. Property tax rates are set every year, state laws change after each legislative session, and local ordinances change on their own schedule. The guides are reviewed and updated, but always confirm time-sensitive details with the official source before you rely on them.
